Are You Really Breathing?

Maria Brady

I know, we all breathe, and if we don’t, we cease to exist.  And I’m not just talking about how our extraordinary body systems work, with our heart pumping blood through our veins and arteries, and breathing the air in, filling our lungs with oxygen, that feeds the blood back into our hearts, to repeat again and again.  No, I’m talking about the need to breathe deeply, using all my senses, and filling myself up with sights, sounds, and smells as well as breath.

Being in nature always has a way of creating a space, where I can truly breathe.

I must admit, to me, there is nothing more peaceful than: walking through a rainforest, and better still, to a waterfall; sitting in a park and watching and listening to the birds and the breeze through the trees; seeing the clouds float by; or taking a Sunday drive, on a winding country road and driving through a canopy of trees, with the dapple sun shining through the leaves.  Ahh, I have just visualized that right now, as I sit to write this, I take in a deep breath and let out a peaceful sigh. All these moments make my heart sing.  These mindful moments create a deep connection with my Self… with My Soul.

My “Aha” moment became my “Ahh” moment.

When first studying Kinesiology, back in 2006, I learned about the Chinese 5 elements, being Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. And even though I understood the concepts, it never completely resonated with me.  This wasn’t until I began to learn about the classical 4 elements of Fire, Air, Earth, and Water, years later through Astrology studies.

Being a Sun sign of Libra, is representative of being an Air sign.  Yes, I do love deep conversations with like-minded Souls.  I am passionate about the intuitive emotional work I do with my clients.  However, I have many earth representations as well, which means I also value my Freedom and I value my connection with Nature.  All these in combination with each other give me a truer understanding of who I am and what I need.

Even if I am not able to get out every week, for those Sunday drives, I always go for walks, look and listen to nature, and Breathe!

What about you?

Do you know what element you are, or resonate with?  If you don’t, then have a look at the list below:

Fire can represent:  Energy & Passion, Transformation and Renewal, and Enlightenment.

Earth can represent:  Connection to Nature, Nourishment, and Grounding.

Air can represent: Communication, Freedom & Adaptability, Inspiration & Higher Consciousness.

Water can represent:  Intuition & Emotions, Balance and Adaptability, and Healing.

Do a bit of research and see what resonates.  Can you find one small thing to do, towards having your own moments that make your heart sing?  It could be using Fire – at the gym or personal growth, Earth – by gardening or volunteering, Air – communicating with friends or exploring deep levels of awareness, or Water – by swimming activities or by painting/journaling.

Take time to care for yourself and Remember to Breathe!
Maria 😊
